If you use Notion Mail — Notion’s inbox built on top of Gmail — today is not a normal day. According to the official Notion Help Center, the Notion Mail inbox goes away on September 22, 2026. The date that matters for not losing data is even closer: September 21, 2026 is the last day to save anything that only lives inside Notion Mail.

In plain language: your sent and received mail history is already in Gmail (Notion Mail synced with your account). That history is not deleted. What can disappear if you do nothing today are items Notion Mail stored on its own: drafts, scheduled emails, snippets (short text templates), and auto-label instructions. Export has been available since June 25; if you have not used it yet, the useful window is today.

What exactly shuts down on September 22

Notion is direct: the Notion Mail inbox is retired. It applies to all Notion plans. The Notion Mail app on iOS, desktop, and web also goes away. After September 22, synced email databases or views in Notion may still be visible, but they will stop receiving new emails.

Regulated organizations (for example with HIPAA-style requirements) were asked to transition even earlier (around June 30, 2026). For most small businesses, freelancers, and product teams, the calendar that matters now is September 21 and 22: one day to finish exporting, and the next day the inbox is gone.

What you do NOT lose (and what you must move today)

The reassuring part first — because the headline can sound harsher than the facts:

• Mail already synced to Gmail: sent and received history stays in Gmail. It is not “trapped” in Notion.
• Gmail AI Connector, mail blocks on Notion pages, and agent tools that use Gmail: Notion says these are unaffected by the inbox retirement.

The urgent part (before September 21, 2026 ends):

• Drafts → migrate them to Gmail (or another client) by hand. A draft that only existed in Notion Mail will not appear in Gmail on its own.
• Scheduled emails → reschedule them from Gmail; otherwise that scheduled send may never leave.
• Snippets → export or copy the text. If a snippet had attached files, download them manually under Settings → Snippets before Sep 22.
• Auto-label instructions → export or note the rules; they do not travel to Gmail on their own.

What Notion Mail will not carry over to Gmail

Even if you move the items above, some things have no automatic equivalent:

• Custom Notion Mail views and sorting (how you “see” the inbox).
• Notion Mail email reminders.
• Files attached to snippets (again: download them yourself; there is no magic button on the 22nd).

In short: Gmail keeps the conversation; Notion Mail takes its organization layer and shortcuts unless you export them. That is useful to know so you do not hunt tomorrow for a view that no longer exists.

Practical checklist for today Sep 21 (SMBs and freelancers)

1. Open Notion Mail and list drafts and scheduled mail; move them to Gmail.
2. Go to Settings → Snippets: export text and download attachments.
3. Export or capture the auto-labels you actually use (not all of them — the ones that save time).
4. Confirm in Gmail that recent history looks complete (it should, via sync).
5. Note which custom views you will recreate in Gmail with labels, filters, or multiple inboxes.
6. On Sep 22, expect the inbox retirement; do not leave export “for the afternoon.”

No need for drama: this is an announced retirement with a checklist, not a security incident or a rumor. But the window is real — and today is the last full day per official Notion Help. If your team shared templates or snippets, assign one owner for the export and put a time on the calendar.
