Apple hadn't released anything truly new for the home in years, and today it finally did: at its "Welcome Home" event on October 13, 2026, it unveiled HomeView, its first smart display for the home. It's a 7-inch screen (roughly the size of a small tablet) that sits on your kitchen counter, nightstand or wall, and lets you play music, make video calls and control your lights or cameras.

It costs $299 in the U.S., pre-orders open today and it ships on November 13. Now the part that stings for us: Mexico isn't on the list of launch countries.

What is HomeView and what does it do?

Think of it as a mix of speaker, digital photo frame and remote control for the whole house. Amazon and Google have sold devices like this for years (Echo Show and Nest Hub), and Apple is only now joining the party. According to Apple, with HomeView you can:

  • Listen to music and podcasts with room-filling sound; the base is a dome-shaped speaker.
  • Make FaceTime video calls (Apple's video-calling app). The camera keeps you in frame even as you move around the kitchen.
  • Control your home: turn lights on or off, change the temperature, lock a smart door lock or watch up to nine security cameras at once.
  • Follow recipes step by step with voice-activated timers, no need to touch the screen with dough on your hands.
  • Use it as a photo frame with a shared album your family can fill from anywhere.

There are two versions: the tabletop model in silver, starlight, rose pink and space gray, and a wall-mounted model in space gray and silver, also $299 (the wall mounts are sold separately).

The headline trick: it recognizes your face

HomeView can recognize up to six people in the household by their face. When someone walks up, the screen switches to their personal view: their messages, calendar and reminders. When someone else walks up, they don't see your stuff. Apple says your private content only appears when the screen recognizes you and your iPhone is nearby.

It also comes with the new version of Siri, Apple's voice assistant, which now understands natural speech better. However, you need a compatible iPhone or iPad to set it up and to use multiple profiles, so Android households will get a lot less out of it.

Why isn't it coming to Mexico (yet)?

Apple opened HomeView pre-orders in the U.S., the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and India. Singapore can pre-order starting October 15, and South Africa will get it through authorized resellers. In the European Union it won't be sold at all: Apple says its new Siri isn't available there yet.

Mexico isn't mentioned anywhere in the announcement. One clue as to why: the new Siri on HomeView currently only works in English and in those same countries. Apple hasn't given a date for Mexico, so if you want one, you'll have to wait or ask a relative across the border.

Apple also refreshed HomePod mini and Apple TV

At the same event, Apple launched two more devices:

  • HomePod mini 2: the little round speaker is back, now in pink, green, blue, white and midnight. It costs $149 ($50 more than the original model from six years ago), pre-orders open today and it hits stores on October 30. The top lights up to the beat, with colors that match the album art. Apple says it's available in the U.S. and more than 23 other countries and regions but didn't publish the full list, so there's no confirmation for Mexico.
  • New Apple TV 4K: the little box you plug into your TV now has built-in microphones, so you can talk to it without hunting for the remote. And if you lose the remote, you can ask Siri to make it ring. It costs $299, pre-orders open today and it arrives November 13. Add four HomePod mini 2 speakers and you get cinema-style surround sound in your living room.

Speakers, screens and TV all connected: Apple wants the whole home in its ecosystem.

Apple also announced its Apple Home Collection: cameras, a video doorbell, a door lock and thermostats made with LG and Schneider Electric. Those come later: starting in December, with some arriving in early 2027.

So, is it worth the hype?

For people already living in the Apple world (iPhone, Mac, AirPods), HomeView is the missing piece to run the home from one place without reaching for the phone. For everyone else, the takeaway is different: the kitchen screen is becoming the new "center" of the home, just like the TV once was. That's where families check the weather, the schedule, recipes, shopping lists… and more and more things we used to do on our phones.

For a business, that means something very concrete: your customers will look for you on more screens than ever, and not always with a finger; sometimes with their voice. Having a clear website, a well-built app and a tidy online presence isn't a luxury anymore, it's being where people are.

If you have a startup or a project and want to make that leap with an app, a platform or a custom website, Presticorp has solutions built for startups that help you launch fast and grow on solid ground.
